Partial plate dentures are recommended to patients who want to replace several lost teeth. Patients usually make their decisions for partial plate dentures because they do not have enough natural teeth for making fixed bridge or financial reasons prevail. This type of denture is economical.
The advantage of partial plate denture is its cost effectiveness. However, the disadvantage is bad pressure transmission. Third and the last part of plate denture is metal part. Purpose of the metal part is connecting of the denture with the rest of patient`s natural teeth. Those metal parts look like wire hooks. Besides its advantages, acrylic plate denture has its disadvantages. Disadvantage of partial dentures is that when wearing it patients are causing damage to the rest of their natural teeth and jaw bone which is the result of the inevitable pressure to the mucous membrane.
Valplast or silicone denture
Valplast dentures belong to the second group of plate dentures. Valplast denture is very elastic. It is formed of special nylon fibres which provide its elasticity. This type of denture looks rather elegant. Patients get used to this type of denture much quicker and get on well with them. Hooks which are used for connecting the denture with the other teeth are made out of the same material what makes them almost invisible. Valplast denture must be kept in the humid environment. Otherwise, it will lose its characteristics and eventually become dry and crack. Patients who are wearing plate dentures cannot behave as they could if they would be having implants or bridge, because plate dentures badly react to the chewing forces.
